New Year’s Resolutions
Perhaps it’s the perception of starting out with a clean slate or maybe it’s because you can usually get a better deal on a gym membership—for a whole slew of different reasons, the beginning of a New Year is easily the most popular time for setting weight loss and fitness goals. Put simply, whether you’re aiming to lose weight, increase your fitness or even if you have a goal that’s completely unrelated, you can’t just make the decision that you’re going to change and expect it to happen overnight.
You need a plan of action. Here are some pointers to setting and KEEPING all those news years resolutions.
Set a Measurable Goal
Instead set goals like, ‘I’m going to do at least 150 minutes of cardio per week’ or ‘I’m going to lose 10 pounds over the next four months, set 1 single goal. It is harder to get motivated for goals set far into the future. Most of us are more likely to succeed when we get positive reinforcement during the process of achieving a larger goal at a time.
With each goal, establish specific actions to achieve that goal. If your goal is losing weight by doing more cardio, list out the ways you’ll achieve that each week. In other words, be sure to set a plan in place. One that details the things you need to do each day, week and month in order to reach the ultimate desired outcome.
With each goal set, be honest with yourself. Are you doing what it takes to achieve it? We can make our minds believe anything. Don’t make excuses for missing the plan. Life happens. Be real and honest. If you want to achieve success, you have to admit when you mess up and go forward. Don’t lie to yourself.
